Introduction
Data Mapping
Privacy Lock’s Data Mapping tools are designed to help organizations manage their data efficiently while ensuring compliance with privacy regulations like GDPR and CCPA. Data mapping is critical for understanding data collection, processing, and data sharing activities for PII across your organization.
With Privacy Lock, users can easily create and manage Meta Models (models comprised of data schemas and metadata) that map data relationships across various platforms and databases. Whether you’re tracking personally identifiable information (PII) or other sensitive data categories, our interface provides a clear, structured way to visualize and manage all your data assets in one place.
There are four different ways to use the Privacy Lock data mapping tool, offering flexibility to suit your preferences. These include: Custom Data Maps JSON Upload Database Adapters Database Integration
-
Custom Data Maps: Privacy Lock provides a data visualization tool for building data maps that display collection and processing activities, without needing to connect to any database systems.
-
JSON Upload: For users that do not wish to implement real time mapping we provide a simple way to map your data systems by uploading a JSON file. JSON file uploads may be repeated over time to track changes in data collection and processing activities.
-
Database Adapters: Privacy Lock integrates with major database systems to provide real-time data mapping. Database adapters include Oracle, MySql, MsSql, Mongo, PostgresSql, IBM, and more. By connecting your databases to the Data Mapping feature, Privacy Lock generates real time mapping of your data collection and processing activities.
-
Database Integration: Privacy Lock provides an integrations library to map third party software systems your business may be using. For more information, please visit our (Integrations Page).
Our tools also provide extensive options for categorizing data subjects, assets, and processing purposes, giving you comprehensive visibility into how data flows within your organization. For more information about this, please see the (Data Inventory) page.
