📄️ Introduction
Data Mapping
📄️ Meta Models
Privacy Lock makes it easy to map your data across disparate platforms and databases without sharing any consumer PII with Privacy Lock. We do this by creating a topology of the data schemas in your database systems, and tracking the data fields you collect. This produces a Meta Model of mapped data systems that you can visualize and manage in your Privacy Lock instance.

📄️ JSON Upload
Another way to map data systems with the Privacy Lock Data Mapping tool is to upload a JSON file. This requires that you have mapped the data schema of the data system in a JSON format. You can do this with an on premise deployment of the Data Mapping service. A JSON upload does not map the data system in real-time, but you can continually update your JSON upload for the same data system to track changes over time.
📄️ Data Inventory
The Data Inventory feature helps your business track and manage a centralized list of all the data collection, processing, and third-party sharing across your data systems. Maintaining an up to date data inventory is required by some privacy laws, and is generally a best practice to operationalize your business’s privacy program. By maintaining a detailed record of data assets, businesses can track where data resides, how it is used, which data is PII, and who has access to it. This is critical for complying with privacy regulations like GDPR and CCPA. A well-maintained data inventory helps identify potential risks, ensures that data retention policies are followed, and enables organizations to respond effectively to data subject requests and audits, ultimately safeguarding both business operations and customer trust.
